Arisaig Campsite Characters

Derek Henderson—father of a Glasgow family vacationing at the campsite near Arisaig; formerly in sales, he now works for a security company

Francine Henderson—mother of family vacationing at the campsite near Arisaig

Lucy Henderson—4-year-old daughter of the Hendersons

Orlando “Orly” Henderson—Lucy’s older brother

Caillean “Callie” Munro—a kayaker in a blue camper van who arrives at the campsite near Arisaig looking for an out-of-the-way camping spot and later disappears

Donald & Jean McIver—owners of the campsite near Arisaig

Characters from Achmelvich Vicinity

Trevor Wills—a man who lives, with his dog Meg, near the beach and cliffs where Eléa Martin dies

Murdo MacKenzie—a worker at the official Achmelvich campsite; he spots the illegally pitched tent at the edge of the dunes where Eléa Martin had camped, finds blood, and calls the Lochinver police

The Victims

Diedre Reid—the first victim, discovered buried in the machair up the beach from the Arisaig campsite; she was a 20-year-old School of Art student from Glasgow who had originally been reported missing by a recent boyfriend, Sam Wheeler

Eléa Martin—a young French female cycling tourist, found dead on the beach of a small cove in the Achmelvich area by Trevor Wills

Dr. Rhona MacLeod—a forensic scientist

Chrissy McInsh—forensic assistant to Dr. MacLeod

Ollie—police tech who works as a “super recognizer” (someone adept at recognizing faces in photo/video images, even when they are blurry or in shadow

Professor Magnus Pirie—a criminal psychologist

Dr. Jen Mackie—an expert in soil forensics

Detective Inspector Bill Wilson—the head of the Glasgow station

Detective Chief Inspector Sutherland—Wilson’s boss

Detective Sergeant Michael McNab—detective from Glasgow station

Detective Sergeant Janice Clark—McNab’s partner at the Glasgow station

Police Constable Wendy Hope/Cope—the family liaison officer who is an intermediary between the Hendersons and social services [Note that sometimes this officer is referred to as Hope and sometimes Cope; I believe this is an editorial error and that there is only one family liaison officer]

Desk Sergeant George Morris—the reception desk officer at the Glasgow police station who claims Holly Allan “changed her mind” when she came in to report abuse by Charles Bonar

Mallaig Police

Detective Sergeant Lee MacDonald—detective from Mallaig station in charge of investigation at Arisaig campsite

Police Constable Anne Cameron—the constable from the Mallaig station sent to look after Francine Henderson at the campsite when Lucy goes missing

Police Constable Angus Murray—a young constable from the Mallaig station who becomes Chrissy’s source of information

Lochinver Police

Detective Constable Marie Swanson—the detective assigned to the Eléa Martin investigation in Achmelvich

Detective Sergeant Marshall—the detective who responds when Trevor Wills reports finding a stick man near the shepherd’s hut

Other Glasgow Characters

Sean Maguire—Rhona’s current boyfriend in Glasgow, a jazz musician

Charlie Bonar—an abusive man whom DS McNab has been trying to put in prison for awhile

Holly Allan—a young female painter DS McNab meets at a bar on the student strip, where she seems to come on to him because he’s a cop

Gus Logan—Caillean “Callie” Munro’s abusive ex-boyfriend, who claims he didn’t know she was missing because he thought she’d broken up and left him while he was in Hong Kong on business

Jeff Broughton—a security guard at various clubs on the student strip who had been Holly Allan’s boyfriend before she started seeing Charles Bonar

Chelsea Grant—a jazz musician and friend of Deidre Reid’s who only learns of her disappearance and murder when Grant returns from a three-month European tour; she has photos and video of Reid that prove helpful to police

Neil Innes—one of the men hanging around the bars on the student strip; he appears in Grant’s photos/videos; he turns out to be the “fisherman” posing as PC Thompson at Loch Lomond

Keith Hamilton—another of the men hanging around the bars on the student strip; he appears in Grant’s photos/videos where he’s raging at Deidre Reid
