Even the Dogs in the Wild

Surprise! John Rebus has retired - and it is not working. Fortunately, DI Siobhan Clarke asks for his help on an unusual murder case and Rebus is back in the game. And, what a game it is! We start with a dead lawyer and a cryptic threatening note. Then an old thorn, Big Ger Cafferty, gets shot at in his house, and he get the same threatening note. Another Rebus acquaintance, DI Malcolm Fox, is involved in an investigation of a major crime family that his been infiltrated by the police. Fox has serious concerns and involves Rebus in his “case”.  As we follow Clarke, Rebus, and Fox in their investigations we soon realize that much more is going on in the dog-eat-dog Rankin’s world and murder and mayhem.

Ian Rankin again proves that he is one of the best at exposing power abuses in its many and varied manifestations.

Highly recommend.
